BC Doctor Develops National Guide For The Greening Of Health Care

A Kimberley-based physician, Dr. Ilona Hale, and a team of health care professionals, have produced a new resource, specifically aimed at clinicians called ‘Planetary Health for Primary Care’.

“It’s an online guide for healthcare providers meant to make the job of reducing our environmental impact in healthcare easier,” said Dr. hale. “The Planetary Health for Primary Care guide offers a new way to think about the problem and practical tips on incorporating solutions into everyday clinical practice.”

“I think a lot of people in health care are looking for ways to make a difference,” she said.

The South Bruce Gray Health Center will close the Durham emergency department overnight at times this summer due to a lack of staff.

“Hospitals across Canada and Ontario are facing staffing challenges and the South Bruce Gray Health Center is no exception. We are experiencing an ongoing shortage of physicians, nurses and other healthcare workers over the summer months,” the hospital corporation said in a news release Wednesday.

The South Bruce Gray Health Center said in its release the temporary changes will allow them to “effectively use our limited resources to safely care for our community.”
