Peterborough Regional Health Center receives $3.4M for after-hours doctors work – Peterborough

The Ontario government is providing more than $3.4 million to the hospital in Peterborough to support on-call funding for doctors working after hours.

On Friday, Peterborough-Kawartha MPP Dave Smith announced the province is providing $3,471,232 to the Peterborough Regional Health Center (PRHC) for on-call support for physicians.

Smith says the funding follows through on past agreements between the Ontario Ministry of Health and the Ontario Medical Association to increase dedicated funding for physicians on-call at nearly 100 acute-care hospitals.

Downtown Winnipeg project to include health-care expansion

WINNIPEG – A private developer announced plans Friday to turn a struggling shopping center in downtown Winnipeg into a large complex of health-care services, affordable housing and public green spaces, with a small number of retail stores.

The Lower Mainland’s medical community is stunned after receiving an urgent memo from a highly-respected doctor about Langley Memorial Hospital’s emergency department – ​​saying it is near collapse and patients should be discouraged from going there.

Quebec to free up hospital beds by giving patients virtual care at home

Quebec is trying out an innovative approach to free up beds in medical facilities: starting next year, some patients in Montreal and Quebec City will be able to receive hospital care at home.

Known as ‘Care Everywhere,’ the Jewish General Hospital became the first in Canada to send patients home and connect them virtually to the hospital last year.

“So, by 2026, we want to deploy 34 home hospitalization projects in all regions of Quebec,” said Sonia Belanger, Quebec’s junior health minister.

Belanger announced a $40 million investment Monday to get the program off the ground.
