Croque Monsieur Protein Bread Pudding

Easter is coming! I love Easter brunch and the past few years it always includes a recipe using my protein sparing bread! This year I am making my protein sparing bread Croque Monsieur Bread Pudding!

Croque Monsieur bread pudding is filled with ham, Gruyere cheese, onions, garlic and thyme.

My son Kai did not want to be the taste tester for this but once he took a bite, he quickly asked for a large piece!

Lack of family doctors leads to pain, frustration for patients in Steinbach area

Samantha Farrell says the emergency department in Steinbach has effectively become her doctor’s office.

Without a family doctor or the means to travel to Winnipeg, she only gets medical care when she cannot wait any longer.

Since losing her family doctor in 2020, Farrell has gone to the ER in the southeastern Manitoba city three times to cope with ovarian cyst pain, including last month, when a cyst ruptured.

“It really shouldn’t be that way,” she said. “I mean, Steinbach’s considered a city — why don’t we have a doctor, or many?”

Provinces work to retain, recruit health-care staff

As competition for health-care workers heats up, so too does the bidding.

When the Nova Scotia government announced $10,000 bonuses for public health-care workers this week, New Brunswick was surprised.

“That was a disappointment. I’m not going to say anything different,” said New Brunswick Health Minister Bruce Fitch.

“Not to speak for the premiere but I believe he was disappointed as well because it did put a lot of pressure on the other provinces.”

The race to retain and recruit staff amid a global shortage of workers is at times pitting provinces against one another.

Canadians continued to face longer wait times for joint replacements and an array of cancer surgeries as the COVID-19 pandemic progressed, a new report shows, putting further pressure on hospitals and provincial governments to tackle the backlogs — all while the country grapples with a healthcare staffing crisis and an aging population.

Released on Thursdayfresh estimates from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), an independent, not-for-profit organization that provides data on Canada’s health-care system, suggest major dips in surgeries in the first two years of the pandemic continued to have a ripple effect by 2022.

To combat anti-trans legislation, state Democrats team up with unlikely ally: the filibuster

Democrats in Republican-led state legislatures are adding the filibuster to their toolkit when it comes to combating legislation targeting LGBTQ rights.

Floor action in the Missouri Senate last week came to a screeching halt as a band of Democratic state senators filibustered for two straight days a bill to bar transgender minors from accessing gender-affirming health care, causing frustrated Republican leadership to adjourn for a scheduled spring break a full day early.

In Nebraska last week, state Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh, one of the legislature’s only Democrats, entered the third week of her filibuster over proposed legislation to ban gender-affirming health
