Trudeau, Ford to make healthcare announcements

The tentative agreement will include $8.4 billion of new funding from the federal health transfer over the next 10 years, with a one-time top-up of $774 million.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier Doug Ford are in the Peel Region on Monday where they are expected to make a significant healthcare announcement.

Trudeau’s office says he and Ford will be joined by federal Minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos and federal Minister of Senior Kamal Khera.

St. Joseph’s Healthcare lost the fourth leader in five years

St. Joseph’s Healthcare is losing its fourth top leader in five years as Melissa Farrell heads to Halton Healthcare.

“The four years I have had working at St. Joe’s been rewarding and deeply meaningful to me,” Farrell said in a tweets Friday.

Farrell was named president in 2019 of the hospital network that includes the Charlton Campus, the West 5th Campus and the King Campus urgent care centre. She made Hamilton’s fifth-highest public sector salary in 2021, earning $513,264, including taxable benefits.

New York state ends COVID mask mandate in health care facilities

NEW YORK — Another chapter of the pandemic is drawing to a close. Masking in hospitals is no longer mandatory. Instead, the decision will be up to individual operators.

As we approach three years since the pandemic started, one of the last COVID-era mandates is finally ending.

Starting Sunday, masks and face coverings will no longer be required in health care facilities in New York.
