A cluster of mysterious brain diseases has struck down at least 200 people in a small province and baffled doctors.

Ohio EPA awards grants to 46 local agencies for mosquito control

COLUMBUS — Forty-six local health departments and municipalities across 41 Ohio counties, including Crawford County, are receiving $816,000 in grants from the Ohio EPA for mosquito control activities. The funding includes $127,000 to remove scrap tires, which can become breeding grounds for mosquito larvae. The grants will help mitigate the spread of mosquito-borne viruses such as Zika, West Nile, and La Cross encephalitis.

Amanda Bynes arrested by police for mental health evaluation

Amanda Bynes was detained this weekend for a mental health evaluation, following the psychiatric hold she was put under earlier this year.

According to TMZ, the Los Angeles Police Department took the former actor, 37, into custody Saturday morning after receiving a call for a woman in distress. Eyewitnesses noted to the outlet that Bynes appeared calm in the presence of the police.

It’s not yet known whether the actress was released or placed on another 5150 psychiatric hold.

Study finds less social networking, better mental health

University students who limited their use of social networks to around 30 minutes a day afterward performed better on tests measuring anxiety, depression, loneliness and fear of missing out, US researchers reported.

Other tests showed that they apparently approached life more optimistically, according to the study published in the journal Technology Mind and Behavior.

Mental health benefits were seen even in participants who sometimes exceeded the 30-minute daily limit.

The study really helps to demonstrate that reducing the time spent on social networks is responsible for improving young people’s psychological well-being, according to Professor Caroline Fitzpatrick, a Université de Sherbrooke
