WHO and Global Citizen sign partnership to promote health, fight inequity and address health-related risks of climate change

WHO and international advocacy organization Global Citizen today signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on joint global advocacy initiatives aimed at promoting and protecting health for all people over the next three years.

The main objectives of the collaboration will be to support global efforts to overcome the inequities that millions of people face in accessing health services and attaining the highest levels of physical and mental health, and addressing the health-related challenges posed by climate change.

Canadians have the right to a healthy environment with the passage of new laws

Changes to the Canadian Environmental Protection Act enshrining the right to a healthy environment have passed into law.

The federal government has been working on the legislation for several years, and introduced the latest version in the Senate in February.

It also adds a sentence to the act guaranteeing that every Canadian has the right to a healthy environment and makes it a duty of the government to protect that right.

The government now has up to two more years to define how that right will be implemented when it comes to enforcing the act.

Amanda Bynes arrested by police for mental health evaluation

Amanda Bynes was detained this weekend for a mental health evaluation, following the psychiatric hold she was put under earlier this year.

According to TMZ, the Los Angeles Police Department took the former actor, 37, into custody Saturday morning after receiving a call for a woman in distress. Eyewitnesses noted to the outlet that Bynes appeared calm in the presence of the police.

It’s not yet known whether the actress was released or placed on another 5150 psychiatric hold.

Chatbot that offered bad advice for eating disorders taken down : Shots

How face masks can help avoid inhaling wildfire smoke

As wildfires continue to burn in several provinces, smoky skies across parts of the country are prompting recommendations from health officials to wear face masks to avoid inhaling harmful smoke.

Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos told reporters on Wednesday morning that he was feeling the impacts of smoky air and encouraged people, especially those with pre-existing respiratory conditions, to wear an N95 mask.
