Unlicensed health insurer fined, ordered to stop operations in Minnesota

A health insurance company based in Texas, but operating in Minnesota, has been fined and ordered to stop selling unlicensed insurance policies in Minnesota.

Salvasen Health, its owner Barry Glenn, and multiple affiliates have been fined $553,000 by the Minnesota Department of Commerce (DOC) and ordered to stop their operations in Minnesota, the DOC said in an announcement Wednesday.

According to the department, Salvasen and affiliates were not licensed in Minnesota to sell health insurance plans but sold unapproved health plans to Minnesota consumers regardless.

UnitedHealthcare says some NC customers affected by data breach

The health insurance provider sent notices to customers earlier this month.

CHARLOTTE, NC — UnitedHealthcare insurance customers in North Carolina will want to double check their mailboxes to see if their data was affected by a breach that happened earlier this year.

The provider said it identified suspicious activity on the UHC mobile application on Feb. 22, 2023 that may have led to the disclosure of member information. About two weeks later, UnitedHealthcare determined certain parts of customer information were likely to impact. New York State is no longer doing auto-renewals for health insurance

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Thursday, Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network held a press conference to keep New York State residents aware of the need to actively renew their health insurance coverage.
