Eating five fruits and vegetables each day has been the message peddled by health gurus for decades.
But now experts say it’s time to rebrand the advice.
Dr Duane Mellor, one of Britain’s top dietary researchers, recommends following the little-known 3:2 ratio.
That is, eat at least three vegetables and two pieces of fruit every day.
He claims it can offer more variety — because there is a more diverse range of vegetables — and they tend to be lower in calories and sugar than fruit.
