Salmon Arm food forest recognized nationally as healthy urban green space

Salmon Arm’s Lighthouse Community Food Forest has been recognized as a shining example of a healthy, climate-resistant urban green space.

Located at the Salvation Army property at 441 3rd St. SW., the food forest took root in 2021 after discussions occurred between the Shuswap Food Action Network and the Salvation Army Lighthouse Community Ministries food bank around food security and the availability of locally produced healthy food. Healthy eating patterns may lower mortality risk | News

Boston, MA—A variety of healthy eating patterns are linked to reduced risk of premature death, according to a new study led by Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health researchers. They found that participants who scored high on adherence to at least one of four healthy eating patterns were less likely to die during the study period from any cause and less likely to die from cardiovascular disease, cancer, or respiratory disease, compared to people with lower scores. The findings are consistent with the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which recommend multiple healthy eating
